Storytelling – Why people matter? | Kim Rowell | TEDxBonnSquareSalon
We might not have the sweeping drone shot openers that most Netflix documentaries indulge in, but if you’re following a family stranded in the middle of a Syrian bombing, the roof caving in over them, the walls falling down, you can see the blood… does it matter if it’s filmed on a shaky hand-held smartphone or a state-of-the-art drone positioned over the Desert in Arizona? As a Digital commissioner, Kim produces documentaries for BBC Three and BBC News targeted at young adults; with projects such as ‘False Hope? and Alternative Cancer Cures’ which saw the Cancer Act debated in Parliament.
She’s held previous roles at the Telegraph as Commissioning Editor and Executive Producer on Bryony Gordon’s ‘Mad World’ and ‘If I Can Do It’ mental health podcasts, of which the Prince Harry episode made global headlines.
Kim’s mental health children’s book ‘Townie Spider’ was released in 2019. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
