Can Psychopaths Be Successful? | Emily Lasko | TEDxYouth@RVA
Psychopathy (sīˈkäpəTHē) doesn’t mean what you might think. It doesn’t describe a malicious killer; rather, it’s on the personality spectrum much like empathy and introversion. In Emily Lasko’s informative talk, she touches on these common misconceptions most people have about psychopaths and introduces an interesting term: “successful psychopaths.” Emily Lasko is a current doctoral student at Virginia Commonwealth University. Emily has spent her academic career researching psychopathy, sadism, and aggressive behavior. Her research aims to examine the interplay between the biological and environmental factors that contribute to the development of these “dark” traits and associated behaviors, as well as their downstream effects on life outcomes such as incarceration. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
